Many of my earliest memories are of being on the beaches of Cape Cod. I have been drawn to beaches and the ocean ever since. I only feel at home near the ocean and I think many people feel the same way. I am fascinated by people on the beach. The strange juxtapositions that happen everywhere, but especially on beaches in Europe - men in suits or formally dressed women passing nude sunbathers, grownups building sand castles, kids absorbed in tide pools far from their sleeping parents. I never get tired of it. This page is a selection of pictures about beaches that I have been adding to for decades and still continue.
One of many sketches I made during 10 days on the Isle D'Oleron in France. I hadn't brought a sketchbook or pencils and there were no art supply stores on the island so I drew on whatever scraps of paper I could get my hands on.
This was originally made as a sketch/maquette for a company looking for an interesting construction fence. We never made the fence, but I like the idea.
